Getting Ready for 2023

Our first meeting in February included a great exchange of ideas for the 2023 program schedule and community activities. In addition, club members Carissa and Karen demonstrated soil blocking, a seed starting technique that relies on planting seeds in cubes of soil rather than cell trays or pots. The potting soil acts as both the growing medium and the container. Soil blockers, which are often metal tools, are used to create the soil blocks. They also presented a how-to on propagating geranium cuttings in potting soil. Plus we all came away with a small geranium plant to nurture through the spring before planting outside.

Looking forward to fun and educational activities this year including a demonstration of pruning small trees and shrubs on March 20th (go to our March Calendar for more details), a hypertufa workshop in April, a landscape design talk and garden tour in May, building a Hugelkultur garden bed in June, and a visit to Grace Pond Farm in Thomaston in July.

Please go to our CONTACT page if you have any questions about upcoming activities or club membership.
