Celebrating Our Two Year Anniversary

Updated: Apr 24, 2023

Thomaston Garden Club has much to celebrate! Our membership has grown in the past year with many talented and dedicated gardeners. Along with many of our varied monthly programs throughout 2022 — such as a maple sugaring demonstration, lessons in ergonomic gardening, seed starting tips and tricks, a guided walk through Merryspring Nature Center, an in-depth tour of the Trees of Thomaston Cemetery, and a presentation on native and invasive plants — we continued our signature projects like TGIF (Thomaston Garden Improvement Fridays), maintained our Community Garden Stand next to the library where we raised over $780 in 2022 for the Thomaston Food pantry, decorated "Lucy's Room" for the Holiday Tour at the Knox Museum, gathered for our yearly hypertufa workshop, and participated in the Thomaston Fourth of July Parade where we auctioned off and sold many gardening items and plants.

We also created The Mary Rita McDevitt Memorial Garden next to the Thomaston Library gazebo. Our focal point is a redbud tree along with several perennials including daffodils and hostas. We are looking forward to seeing the spectacular pink flowers on the redbud this spring. Mary Rita founded the club in January 2021.

We look forward to the many fun, educational gardening and conservation programs and community events in 2023.
